Christmas Hat Tournament(s), 2018

Christmas Hat Tournament, 2018

Merry Christmas: Five Gold Rings at the Christmas Hat Tournament (20/12/2018)

Another year gone, and the results are in: following an immensely competitive competition, some of the competitors went in competitively, some came out quite competitively, and quite a few others simply competed in their own competition(s).

Meanwhile, somewhere in a younger universe, this happened:

The rise of the Phoenix (DKC juniors)

The past few weeks have been quite eventful for DKC’s junior section. The kids club at Ardler had been limping along for quite a while before Christmas, and sadly it looked like it was time to pull the plug. But just as we were about to wash the baby out with the bathwater, the nice people at the Ardler Complex came to our rescue: they’ve offered us a much better deal on our hall hire, so we were all set to relaunch our junior club this Thursday. Naturally, the handful of kids that we have managed to keep and grow over the past three years seemed very relieved at this turn of events. Even better news was that the “relaunch” attracted 4 more newbies too, as well as a couple of enthusiastic new helpers. And so, in short, here we go again… Yippeee!

Anyone with any interests in the newly relaunched club should get in touch with Nigel Cooper (the club’s Development Officer) in the first instance – email nigel@dundee.korfball.org.uk or phone/text 07817 640432. New players (both boys and girls aged 8-14) will always be welcome, and the club will always try its best to accommodate people of all abilities. Training runs from 5:30pm to 6:30pm every Thursday night at the Ardler Complex on Turnberry Avenue (DD2 3TP) – regular sessions cost £2 each, but concessions are available and everyone gets their first session for free.

A second training night? Looking good…

News just in from Dundee City Council: DKC is being offered the chance to run a second training session every week from August 25 onwards. We’ve been allocated Fintry’s PPP hall, from 8 to 10pm every Monday night (until June 22, 2015, and during term times only). Should be a great opportunity to develop the club, playing on a much bigger court than Ardler, and getting some fitness training in too. Who’s looking forward to that? 🙂

Training on April 3rd cancelled

There will be no training on April 3, 2014: Ardler’s Sports Hall is being used for a major event from April 3 – April 6. Sorry folks.

Also, there will be no training for juniors at Ardler on either April 10th or April 17th, cos those are School holiday weeks and numbers look like they’re going to be too low to make those sessions worthwhile – sorry! (I promise that I shall use the time to re-Cooper-ate as the kids’ coach). So we’ll hope to see all the kids back on Thursday, April 24th.

Coaches for the club

New Coaches for the club?

Last week-end several members of the club attended a coaching course in Glasgow. Michael, Paul, Caroline Chris and Erwin all went to Glasgow for a full day of instructions and practices. Joined by several others from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle and Oban there was a right mix in experience and years played, one was so brave to attend even that she had never played before, well done.
The course was organised by our own coach Nigel with Mary, and they had Graham Box over to lead the course. I think that I can speak for all that the course was very well organised and enjoyed by all. The day started at 10:00, a break in the middle for some food and ended at 17:00. I have to say I can feel my muscles today (Monday 2-12) and I am glad the training is not until Thursday. All that attended have to lead a session to show that we have been listening and have taken on board all the material covered during the day before we can call ourselves qualified level 1 coaches, but I think that we are all up for that.
So, what does that mean for the training sessions? I think this means that we can look forward to different coaches taking sessions, with different approaches and styles with different techniques getting the focus. Exciting times.

So, bring along your friends that have been telling you all along that they should start doing some exercise. Dundee korfball is getting better and better.
