It is with great sadness that Dundee Korfball Club is forced to announce that…

Also, in related news, the club is delighted to announce that its first ever Korfmas Hat competition has been won by Rosie Lloyd, who proudly paraded her home-made hat throughout the final juniors training session of the year. Well done Rosie!

After School Korfball Clubs starting on Oct 23

We’re all set to start up two new after-schools clubs beginning on October 23…
The first one will be at Birkhill Primary, and is being hosted by the Angus Active Schools Coordinator, Jo Whaite. This one will run from 3:30 to 4:30pm.
The second one is a bit later on, from 6:00 to 7:30pm, and will be hosted by Mark Brash, who is the ASC for the Craigowl cluster in Dundee. These later sessions will be aimed at secondary school kids, but will be held in the main sports hall at Craigowl Primary (download the flyer here).
Anyone wanting any more details for either club should contact Nigel Cooper, DKC’s Youth Development Officer, on 07817 640432.

And don’t forget that our regular youth section is still running every Thursday evening at the Ardler Complex, from 5:30-6:30pm. Everyone is welcome here, and everyone’s first session is completely free of charge.

Plans for Youth Korfball

Youth Korfball

Youth Korfball

Just a little update on our plans to bring youth korfball to the area. We now have a definite start date, and we are getting support from several Active Schools coordinators, so things look very promising. The planned outcome includes two “feeder” clubs, leading up to a combined Thursday evening (5:30-6:30pm) youth section at the Ardler Complex.

One feeder club will be based at Craigowl Primary, most likely starting on May 17 (every Thursday for 5 weeks, from 4:30 to 5:15pm). The other one will be at Birkhill Primary from 6pm to 7pm on Tuesday evenings, starting on May 8 (every Tuesday for 6 weeks). We will be runnig a series of taster sessions in various schools over the next few weeks to pump prime the two feeder clubs (see events diary for dates).

A flyer (and parental consent form) for the combined Thursday-evening club is available here: A Jump Start for Youth Korfball in Dundee.

We hope that these developments will be of interest to lots of kids and families, and look forward to making it all work out. If anyone would like to volunteer to help in any way, please get in touch with the club’s youth development officer (me!) a.s.a.p.

Training update: new time & place, as of 19/4/12

Well, the season is over, and FINALLY there are a few sports-hall slots opening up that will allow us to go back to mid-week training sessions. The best one that we’ve come across for most people is from 6:30pm to 8:00pm every Thursday evening. This is at the Ardler Complex (Turnberry Avenue, Dundee, DD2 3TP).

There is also the possibility for us to start a junior section up at Ardler immediately before the adults train, and we are really keen to make this happen. If anybody knows of any young people that would be interested in learning to play korfball, please let Nigel know asap – the most likely time for this would be 5:30pm – 6:30pm on Thursday evenings.

The first Thursday evening training session for adults will be on April 19th.

Training time update

We’re still searching around for a venue to re-start mid-week training sessions again, but I’m afraid we’ll just have to make do with Sunday evenings (at Menzieshill) for the time being. We have been allowed to start a little bit earlier than normal now though, so from now on all training sessions will run from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. This should make it a bit easier to squeeze a good warm up, some skills practice, a few breaks and a decent length game into most training sessions. We don’t want anyone to be put off if they can’t make the whole sessions though –  please feel free to just turn up and join in whenever you can. And if there are any particular bits of the sessions that you either love or hate, or other things that you want us to include, please let us know about it (and we’ll see what we can do to keep everyone happy).

Please note that there will be no training on February 19th, March 11th and March 25th, cos all of our coaches and most of our players will be involved in away games on those days. Sorry about that!

Announcing the Dundee Korf Special: Route #1

It seems that the buses around Dundee aren’t doing a particularly good job at getting people to our training sessions…

So let’s make our own: as of next week, Mary & I will be happy to give lifts to up to 3 people to and from training…
Route 1, with a capacity of 3 very friendly people, will depart from the junction of Blackness Rd and Rosefield Street at 7:40pm, and return shorty after training ends. Be there, or be stranded? Just call/text/email Nigel to arrange / prebook your journey!
