Shirts & Hoodies

They’re here! Well, some of them are here, at least. Yes folks, our first official team kit has arrived: including a bunch of small Adidas tops, a selection of blue and grey hoodies, and some nice fresh bibs to train in.

Many thanks to Breedon Aggregates for funding the team kit, and to Mary and Alan for sorting the orders out. Now, if only we could play as smartly as we’ll look…

Anyone who would like a shirt or hoodie for themselves should contact Mary for pricing and availability.

Dundee Day – Summer Tournament (27/5/12)

We are planning to hold our first ever Summer tournament on Sunday, May 27. It will be a one day event, open to teams from everywhere… teams from existing clubs, cobbled together teams of friends, and probably a few cobbled together teams of people who’ve never played together before too. The event is scheduled for the day after St. Andrews’ magnificent beach tournament, so we are hoping that quite a few of the beach teams (one beach team = 2 boys + 2 girls) will hang around and pair up to form full teams (4 boys + 4 girls) on Dundee Day.

Anyone who’s interested in either entering a team, or just coming along and playing for a scratch team, should get in touch with Nigel (07817 640432) for more details, or email tourny@dundee.korfball.org.uk.

Similarly, anyone who is willing to help us run the event (we will need lots of helpers) should make themselves known as soon as possible. You don’t even need to like korfball to be a good helper. 😉

Lottery funding

A4A logoWhahey! Awards for All (Scotland) have come up trumps for us: they are providing us with £7250 to fund our first-year development project “A jump start for korfball in Dundee”. The project will help us to expand the adult section of our club, as well as to develop youth korfball in areas in and around Dundee. Most of the funding will be used to buy new equipment (including 8 new posts and 16 balls in various sizes), but there are also substantial contributions towards hall hire, advertising, coaching, and both coach and referee development.

Time for some team shirts?

Anyone up for running before they can walk? With a club membership currently standing at 10 people, and a very promising start to the season, perhaps we should start thinking about some club kit? Here’s my own vision in pink just to get you thinking. Whether you love it, hate it, or don’t really care one-way-or-the-other, please sign yourselves up as registered users of the website and post any comments and suggestions below…

Grand opening on September 7

DKC’s first ever training session will be held in less than 2 weeks time.
The club’s GRAND OPENING will be held on Wednesday, September 7, from 8:00 to 9:30pm.
Come along to the Allardyce sports hall at Mayfield Sports Centre (193 Arbroath Road, Dundee DD4 7HS) to give the game a try. You don’t need any special equipment to join in, and everyone’s first session is free-of-charge.

See our FAQs and events diary for more information.

Progress update, and forming a committee

Well, quite a few people have been in touch over the past few weeks, including several who have played korfball before, and several who have only just learned the name of the game. So things are looking good as far as being able to get a club up and running in time for the forthcoming season. All that we need to do now is to make the club official, form an inaugural committee, and prepare to start playing korfball.

So who’s up for that? Please have a look at the club’s draft “rules and constitution” (PDF link here), have a little think about whether you could offer your services as one of the club’s inaugural officers, and let us know if you’d like to play korfball for Dundee.

As soon as we get a chairperson, a secretary and a treasurer (i.e. three seperate people to fill the three main positions on the committee), I think that we’ll be good to go. If we can fill more positions than this, then all the better (other posts include coaching, development and social coordinators, child protection officer, team manager/captain(s) and vice-chairperson).

I’m happy to put myself forward for any of the positions, so we really only need two more people to say something similar, and then we’re in business. 🙂

Please sign yourselves up a.s.a.p. – our first season in the Scottish Korfball League could be less than 2 months away!

A new korfball club for Dundee

Korfball is an exciting, fast-paced, non-contact team sport for men and women, boys and girls.

And Dundee is an exciting, fast-paced, non-contact city full of men and women, boys and girls. Right?

So how’s about putting the two things together and making…

Dundee Korfball Club?

Post a response below or get in touch with us via the contacts page if you’re interested.

With any luck, we could have a brand new sports club up and running by the end of the Summer!
